In our home this price is definitely in the splurge range but I’m so smitten with these slippers I want my whole family to have them (maybe once the kids feet stop growing!). You’re paying for quality and craftsmanship with Soft Star shoes – not marketing and fancy packaging. They produce all the shoes right in their factory in Oregon. Soft Star shoes use mostly USA made leather and use non-formaldehyde tanning methods that are better for the earth and for us.
Price: these shoes are $120 and there’s good reason for the price. But Soft Star has a great range of sizes and you can even custom order your own shoes in your color and material preferences. they come in my size! It’s very frustrating to get recommended North American made or fair trade or eco-friendly fashions that only come in conventional sizes (I’m 6ft tall and wear a size 11 or 12 shoe and wear a 14 tall in clothing).It’s hard to find companies that are creating earth friendly and attractive and wallet friendly goods. I’m so into these slippers that when I went away for one night I brought them with me. These slippers are soft, comfortable and so so warm. I understand why everyone has written such glowing reviews of these slippers. Many many years ago I had a pair of slippers that were warm but so tight across the bridge of my foot I had to give them up. Non lace up closed shoes are often tight across the top of my foot. Could these slippers be a mood booster for me? Also, would they fit? I have large feet and a very high arch. When my feet are cold I tend to get grumpy. My feet are often cold and it had just dipped into the negative temps here when the slippers arrived. Cozy, perfect, warm, soft, easy to slip on. People said their only regret was not buying them sooner. There are a lot of glowing reviews of these slippers on the Soft Star website.
Enter the Soft Star Fireside Sheepskin Slipper. Normally I just wear a pair of wool socks over the winter but we’ve move to a much colder climate. But what I was in search of was a warm house slipper for winter. Right now I’m living in a pair of New Balance sneakers, my Frye boots and a pair of snow boots. Soft Star contacted me about doing another shoe review for a fall style (I reviewed their Ballerine Flat here) and while their styles looked great I had a problem: I don’t need any fall shoes. Plus, I really like what this company is doing. Why? Because so many of you have recommended these shoes and many more of you have asked for ethically sourced well made apparel. The exception I have made, and am now making again, is for Soft Star shoes. But you’re here, and I’m here, to focus on living with less stuff. Not because I am not asked: I get requests almost daily for reviews of products. This is a rare post for this blog: a ‘thing’ review. You may have noticed that I rarely host giveaways and almost never endorse products on this blog.
